Going into Canada

October 11, 2006

We passed through Customs today about 9:am. We had no problems at all. They didn’t even look at our passports. They did confiscate my pepper spray. But they let us keep our can of Bear spray. If the can reads, “to be used against animals”, it is legal to have it. Crazy huh? We had a beautiful drive across New Brunswick. The leaves are just beautiful. For a short distance we saw just evergreens and gold Aspen. Beautiful contrast. But the red & oranges are very vivid.  Reminds us of PA.

We drove into Canada planning to take the ferry from St. Johns to Digby, NS. But we missed the ferry by 15 minutes and the next one was at 11:pm. Needless to say we didn’t want to waste a whole day waiting. So we started driving and were glad we did. We drove thru Fundy National Park. We ate a picnic lunch and took a nap there. We drove highway 1 along the coast. Beautiful!

We are now at the Bay of Fundy. The spot to experience the highest tides in the world and walk on the beaches at low tide. We were at Hopewell Rocks this evening and plan to go there in the morning at low tide. We have a camp site at Hopewell Cape. We took a loooong drive in the jeep looking for a restaurant and moose. We stopped at the Cape Enrage Lighthouse

After 30 miles we found a restaurant that was open but saw no moose. Thought sure we would see some on our drive back as it was a lonely country road, miles from nowhere. But no luck. Maybe we will wake up and have one right here. They sometimes come in to the campground and since there is only three coaches here, they might feel safe to come in. We are parked facing out over a body of water, surrounded by shrubs and trees. Great place to see wildlife and birds. Saw a big Heron as we were parking.  Met a couple from Florida. They had been on the road for 2 months and were heading for Hershey, PA. They are thinking about full timing.
